Mayukh Mukhopadhyay

Executive Doctoral Candidate  |  Department of Marketing  |  IIM Indore

Profile Summary

I am a full-time Data Consultant with more than 15 years of experience in the telecom billing and payments domain, where I have worked across complex transformation programs, business continuity initiatives, and data-driven problem solving. Over the years, I have learned that the most important challenges are rarely only technical. They are also about communication, judgment, and the ability to bring clarity to situations that are layered, fast-moving, and often uncertain.

Alongside my professional journey, I have remained deeply committed to academic learning and research. I hold an M.Engg from Jadavpur University and an MBA from IIT Kharagpur, and I am currently in the ABD stage of my Executive PhD journey at IIM Indore. I still see myself as a learner first, shaped as much by questions as by answers. That mindset has kept me grounded and constantly open to growth.

My academic interests revolve around a broader theme that continues to fascinate me: I study complex emotions and how brands, narratives, and mediated communication use them to shape influence and engagement. Within that space, I am especially interested in nostalgia marketing and podcast marketing, particularly how memory, identity, voice, and storytelling create trust, attachment, and a sense of belonging. I am also drawn to questions in International Relations, especially Soft Power and Digital Diplomacy, because they extend this same curiosity into a wider arena, where symbols, narratives, platforms, and cultural signals shape perception across borders, institutions, and public life. What ties these interests together for me is a simple idea: influence is often built not only through direct persuasion, but through emotion, meaning, and the stories people come to inhabit.

Professionally, I have often found myself working at the intersection of analytical rigor and practical execution. My role has required me to translate technical complexity into business understanding, align stakeholders across functions, and support decisions that are thoughtful and actionable. I enjoy that bridge-building work. It has taught me that clarity matters, patience is underrated, and jargon usually arrives just before confusion starts feeling important.

Beyond my formal roles, I enjoy contributing to wider intellectual and professional communities through writing, peer review, and content creation. I am the author of Ethereum Smart Contract Development published by Packt UK, and I actively review for international journals and conferences. I also host the AI-assisted podcast Revise and Resubmit - The Mayukh Show, which reflects my interest in ideas, inquiry, and the occasionally dramatic rhythm of academic life. Revisions, in my experience, are rarely glamorous, but they are usually where the real learning begins.

If my work brings together consulting, research, and communication, it is because I have come to value thoughtful inquiry as much as practical relevance. Whether I am engaging with data, ideas, or people, I try to bring sincerity, discipline, and curiosity to the table. I do not think of expertise as a finished state. I see it as an ongoing responsibility to keep learning, keep contributing, and stay humble enough to know there is always more to understand.
